Interview vs. Conversation
What are the pros and cons?
Kevin? Ted?

Alright boys, say whats on your minds. You loved it right?

in·ter·view (?n’t?r-vy?’)
n.
I think we have created our first elicit podcast…oh that’s illicit….nevermind.
May 25th, 2006 at 7:45 pm
This one was probably more geared towards teachers — since they would be more interested in getting ed-tech classes. No good for a gear head.
May 25th, 2006 at 7:46 pm
Maybe Michael could label the podcast with some sort of content value. (Something like: This podcast is geared 90% to educators and 10% to geeks)
May 25th, 2006 at 8:06 pm
I think Jeff is implying that it’s a little too MSU friendly. OK Jeff fess up, where’d you go to school?
May 25th, 2006 at 8:20 pm
So Jeff, on a more sincere note. Was the fact that the podcast was more centered on interviewing two people about their “thing” rather than a more freeform conversation about everyones “things” what you object to? Or maybe “object” isn’t the right word. Is it that you “prefer” the freeform conversations to the style of this podcast.

Somebody tell Kevin a joke. He looks sad.
May 25th, 2006 at 8:30 pm
Tom, thanks for posting my IM comments.

Hey Kevin-
Q: What do you call a *** **** ** **** ** **** waterskiing?
A: ****
HAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHA!!

I thought your comment was useful Ted. I think we should make a geek-o-teach-o-meter.
Ted said, “Maybe Michael could label the podcast with some sort of content value. (Something like: This podcast is geared 90% to educators and 10% to geeks)”

This is for Kevin.
There are 10 kinds of people in the world. Those who understand binary numbers and those who don’t.
May 25th, 2006 at 9:45 pm
Ok, let’s try this again:
Q: What do you call a nerd with no arms and no legs hanging on a wall?
A: Art.
Q: What do you call his arms and legs?
A: Pieces of Art.

I enjoy the freeform conversation more. There are times when I am listening that I forget I am not in the room with all of you and want to throw in my 2 cents.
I went to Wayne State.
However, I do like the concepet of the MSU classes. I would even consider teaching them here in our district.
I think most of your freeform conversations were balanced between both geek and gear.
The best have been when Tom gives everyone a reading assignment and the the group meets to discuss it. The Geek-Ed Book Club.

——————————————————————————–
A programmer was crossing a road one day when a frog called out to him and said, “If you kiss me, I’ll turn into a beautiful princess.”
He bent over, picked up the frog and put it in his pocket. The frog spoke up again and said, “If you kiss me and turn me back into a beautiful princess, I will stay with you for one week.”
The programmer took the frog out of his pocket, smiled at it and returned it to the pocket. The frog then cried out, “If you kiss me and turn me back into a princess, I’ll stay with you and do anything you want.” Again the programmer took the frog out, smiled at it and put it back into his pocket.
Finally, the frog asked, “What is the matter? I’ve told you I’m a beautiful princess that I’ll stay with you for a week and do anything you want. Why won’t you kiss me?”
The programmer said, “Look, I’m a programmer. I don’t have time for a girlfriend — but a talking frog, now that’s cool!”

[...] What I find interesting is the number of subject related podcasts at the iTunes Store under their Education section. This is great – I wouldn’t mind brushing up my German, but it can be a bit trickier to find podcasts for professional development (which the first part of my presentation will focus on) until I found the Education Podcast Network. This website is awesome! I found Geek-ed through this portal and it was great to hear like minded people on the other side of the world. In fact, being excited after listening to the first few episodes a while back I got in touch with Diane Harris and we hooked our kids up with podcasting. So, EPN does a good job of listing stuff but as all teachers know, its a matter of finding time. I’m wondering about making recommendations about good podcasts that are stumbled across. I suppose it depends on what people are after, the pedagogical stuff, the technical stuff, the industry/media/public level stuff. Guess it’s just a matter of playing a wide variety and then narrowing it down to suit you and your situation. [...]
